Day After Tomorrow

I hate SEA from yesterday

Most terrific day in my life..At 9am, i woke up from bed because it was a SUNDAY.I got a call from my friend who said "Earthquake in chennai"..i thought it was a joke..To confirm this I put my TV..only to find that there was no cable connection....In panic i came out of my room only to find my mansion empty...i was the only guy in the entire mansion.then i went to top floor..whole of triplicane was standing on the streets..i got a call from all my friends saying "please get out of the mansion ..please go to any safe place"..i didn't know where to go..

I never saw such a crowd in triplicane..With my friends i went to beach to see what's was happening over there....i have never seen the beach like this..never such a crowd and neither so much water..everywhere i heard only police and ambulance sirens ...

I saw the REAL pain and REAL fear in everybody's eyes..Didn't know what to do..Feeling very hungry at that time..not a single shop was open..my friend and I went to Mount road for my breakfast.I returned back to my room to watch what was happening around the city on the T.V...cable connection was on at that time and my friends also joined.

just watched all the channels(sun news, headlines today,ndtv,dd,bbc...)..like a poll results the causalty count start increasing every hour.

Every 20 mins i got a call from someone asking about my status(thanks guys for yr support and thanks for remembering me)..I got maximum number of calls yesterday...
when i tried to make a call to my house, I did not get the line..because of too much traffic in the line..i got to call at night only(9:40pm)

Afternoon,my friend got parcel meals for me..we shared that and spoke like "This might be our last meal if something goes wrong"....some foolish thoughts(now i thought like this..but at that time it seemed possible infact we believed that...)
Everywhere all were speaking of that news only..and also so many rumours ..i just watched as usual programs I regularly do in TV(3-4 live choice in jayatv and couple of my favorites)...and washed my clothes.

I wanted a change of mood ..so decided to go to a movie..i thought nobody will be in the theatre..but my guess was wrong.. I was not able to get a ticket...got a ticket(in black only) for the movie "RAMAKRISHNA"....not able to enjoy throughly because i had a guilty felling in my mind ..am i doing anything wrong to this society?Everybody there was struggling for life ..i was here enjoying the movie..but i gave justification for myself saying " i am also an ordinary man...if something happened to me who is going to care for that..no one..so why should i bother about that...".....some philosophical thought.

The guys watching the movie gave comments based on this incident only....everybody laughed for that cheap comment( i too ..what to do..i am also an ordinary man..u know)..

i got a SMS and calls saying still there was a chance to rise of water in the sea..so don't go to triplicane..i didn't care about that sms and went to my room..on the way to my room most of people were sleeping on the road...(because they were all afraid of the earth quake recurring)
At 2am i just switch on my TV and watched my fav.channels(Ftv,zoom tv..)...and slept ...Morning i got up a bit early, opened the door and saw my neighbours's house..Everything was fine...I was a bit cool by that time and just listened to the news channels again.

Actually i have never believed in GOD..but what can I do..if everything goes out of our hand...i too did the same thing..prayed to GOD

I want to do something to those people who suffered by this incident.. i don't know how can I contribute to this..Its very easy to watch everything in TV and comment about that..when u face that in yr life then only u can able to understand that pain..i realized that yesterday..

But morning as usual i prepared myself and came to office and did the same work what i am doing couple of months(production support and wrote couple of lines in java....for my bread)..

People may remember this incident a week or 2 ...But I never forget this incident in my lifetime..

THANKS GOD ...Giving me the oppurtunity to live in this world(2nd chance) .

ANT

Now I am learning How to use ANT..
Otherwise eachtime I have to compile my java files and copy that class file into one directory and then I make that file into war(or)jar file....so much of work I have to do deploy this files into someother server..

But after learning( not completely )ANT my life becomes so simple..just type 'ant' in the command prompt or make it as a batch file ...then it will take care of rest of the work..

If u r using IDEs(netbeans,...)..it does that kind of stuff..but i used to write my programs only in notepad or editplus..so this will help me a lot..

Linux Vs Solaris

Now Torvalds and his allies face a new side of that old competitor. Sun has turned Solaris into an open-source project. The company also is building its own community of programmers around Solaris, while promoting the operating system's deployment on the widely used computers with x86 processors, such as Intel's Xeon.

Torvalds - interview with CNET News.com :

Question : What do you think of what Sun is doing with Solaris 10--technology improvements, open source, and the move to x86 chips?
Answer : I'm taking a very wait-and-see attitude to Sun. They like talking too much. I'm waiting for the action.

Xmas Dream by Mr.scott McNealy

Scott McNealy's Xmas dream
By Scott McNealy, CEO at Sun Microsystems

Exclusive I had the weirdest dream last night.

There I am, standing in line to see Santa, with hundreds of other kids.

The line is one of those switch-back ones, the kind that make you dizzy from changing directions so many times. Half of the kids look eager and excited, the other half scared and anxious. A couple of kids can't stand still, a couple can't seem to stand up.

All of a sudden I realize that the kid getting on Santa's lap looks like a young Bill Gates... it is a young Bill Gates! And there's Larry Ellison and Meg Whitman. Carly is there and so is Red Hat CEO Matthew Szulik. I lean over the rope line to see if I can catch what Gates is saying:

For Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO, 2004 was a very good year. His firm led the search industry, the fastest-growing major sector in technology; it went public, raising $1.67 billion; its stock price soared; and its revenues more than doubled, to $3 billion. But as the search market ripens into something worthy of Microsoft’s attention, those familiar with the software business have been wondering whether Google, apparently triumphant, is in fact headed off the cliff.

Worth to Read

I got this info via Mail...Good one .... So touching !!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its not the pace of life I mind , its the sudden stop at the end !!!

'How long will you be poring over that newspaper? Will you come here right away and make your darling daughter eat her food?'

I tossed the paper away and rushed to the scene. My only daughter Sindu looked frightened. Tears were welling up in her eyes. In front of her was
a bowl filled to its brim with Curd Rice.

Sindu is a nice child, quite intelligent for her age. She has just turned eight. She particularly detested Curd Rice. My mother and my wife
are orthodox, and believe firmly in the 'cooling effects' of Curd Rice!

I cleared my throat, and picked up the bowl. "Sindu, darling, why don't you take a few mouthful of this Curd Rice? Just for Dad's sake, dear.
And, if you don't, your Mom will shout at me'

I could sense my wife's scowl behind my back. Sindu softened a bit, and wiped her tears with the back of her hands. 'OK, Dad. I will eat - not
just a few mouthfuls, but the whole lot of this. But, you should...' Sindu hesitated.
'Dad, if I eat this entire Curd Rice, will you give me whatever I ask for?'

'Oh sure, darling'.

'Promise?'

'Promise'. I covered the pink soft hand extended by my daughter with mine, and clinched the deal.

'Ask Mom also to give a similar promise', my daughter insisted. My wife slapped her hand on Sindu's, muttering 'Promise', without any emotion.

Now I became a bit anxious. 'Sindumma, you shouldn't insist on getting a computer or any such expensive items. Dad does not have that kind of
money right now. OK?'

'No, Dad. I do not want anything expensive'. Slowly and painfully, she finished eating the whole quantity. I was silently angry with my
wife and my mother for forcing my child eat something that she detested.

After the ordeal was through, Sindu came to me with her eyes wide with expectation. All our attention was on her. 'Dad, I want to have my
head shaved off, this Sunday!' was her demand!

'Atrocious!' shouted my wife, 'a girl child having her head shaved off? Impossible!'.

'Never in our family!' my mother rasped. 'She has been watching too much of television. Our culture is getting totally spoiled with these TV
programs!'

'Sindumma, why don't you ask for something else? We will be sad seeing you with a clean-shaven head.'

'No, Dad. I do not want anything else', Sindu said with finality.

'Please, Sindu, why don't you try to understand our feelings?' I tried to plead with her.

'Dad, you saw how difficult it was for me to eat that Curd Rice'. Sindu was in tears. 'And you promised to grant me whatever I ask for. Now, you
are going back on your words. Was it not you who told me the story of King Harishchandra, and its moral that we should honour our promises no matter what?'

It was time for me to call the shots. 'Our promise must be kept.'

'Are you out your mind?' chorused my mother and wife.

'No. If we go back on our promises, she will never learn to honour her own. Sindu, your wish will be fulfilled.'

With her head clean-shaven, Sindu had a round-face, and her eyes looked big & beautiful.

On Monday morning, I dropped her at her school. It was a sight to watch my hairless Sindu walking towards her classroom. She turned around and
waved. I waved back with a smile. Just then, a boy alighted from a car, and shouted, 'Sinduja, please wait for me!'

What struck me was the hairless head of that boy. 'May be, that is the in-stuff', I thought.

'Sir, your daughter Sinduja is great indeed!' Without introducing herself, a lady got out of the car, and continued, 'That boy who is walking along with your
daughter is my son Harish. He is suffering from ... ... leukaemia.'

She paused to muffle her sobs. 'Harish could not attend the school for the whole of the last month. He lost all his hair due to the side effects of the
chemotherapy. He refused to come back to school fearing the unintentional but cruel teasing of the schoolmates. Sinduja visited him last week, and
promised him that she will take care of the teasing issue.

But, I never imagined she would sacrifice her lovely hair for the sake of my son! Sir, you and your wife are blessed to have such a noble soul as
your daughter.'

I stood transfixed. And then, I wept. 'My little Angel, will you grant me a boon? Should there be another birth for me, will you be my mother,
and teach me what Love is?'

6 Myths of Creativity

Research in this field shows that anyone with normal intelligence is capable of doing some degree of creative work. Creativity depends on a number of things: experience, including knowledge and technical skills; talent; an ability to think in new ways; and the capacity to push through uncreative dry spells. Intrinsic motivation -- people who are turned on by their work often work creatively -- is especially critical.

If the device is left in a car or a vacationer’s tent, for example, it can notify the owners if someone is tampering with their property.

J2ME Survey

J2ME - Back to the Beginning?

In many ways, today's J2ME is a return to the very origins of Java technology. The Java programming language was originally developed as a language for programming consumer electronic devices, but over the years it evolved into a set of technologies used primarily to develop desktop and server-based applications.

Survey Details

Interview

Question: Do you care to speculate as to how long the Java language will be around?

Answer : I suspect that the Java language will be good for another 20 to 30 years if we manage its evolution carefully. But I also expect that new research ideas will emerge and slowly gain acceptance and, at some point, we'll want a new synthesis that will create a great new simple language. And of course we'll want to make sure that great new language runs on the Java Platform!

OpenSource Nice Definition

Open Source (and "free") software is like water. You can get it for free from any stream, although you have to get to the stream with something to carry the water in. For the last few decades, corporations with only greed to guide them have polluted our water supplies. You can still go to a mountain stream and get cool, clear and clean water, but who has the time? Linux, in this water analogy, comes from such a stream. The water is pure. Since the stream is not very easy to reach, some companies have undertaken the arduous task of bottling the water for public consumption. In Linux terms, these are called "distributions."

One way to HIRE Programmer

While Dutile is reluctant to hire programmers right out of school--"I don't know that I've ever found a developer out of college who was ready for the market"--he does have a trick for finding good talent. He sometimes searches Google and SourceForge.net, a repos- itory for open-source code that's maintained by VA Software Corp., to see which programmers are working on projects that demonstrate skills valuable to KeyCorp. This lets Dutile take a look at a programmer's work. "If I was hiring a programmer from another bank, it's not likely that bank would let me go and evaluate the code that person worked on for them," Dutile says.

PORTLAND(linux) Vs SEATTLE(windows)

Frye said it all began with a casual comment he made during a brainstorming session a week or so after he joined IBM's emerging-markets team. He used to build supercomputers and knew academics who were talking about using Linux for supercomputing, so he brought it up.
"I raised my hand and said, 'What's our Linux strategy,' " he said. "Of course, the answer was, 'What's Linux?,' so I got the job of going off and writing a one-page paper of what Linux is, to bring back for our conversation."
Then Frye helped create a business plan. Competing with Microsoft wasn't a major emphasis, he said. The greater opportunity was to win new customers, particularly away from Sun Microsystems.

Do you (A) give up and get out of the business; (B) set up a team of product developers to make a competing product; or (C) hack into the competitor's website, steal the code, and for good measure hire their critical employees to develop an exact duplicate of their website. If you answered (C) then congratulations and welcome to the new world of competitive hacking.

Nice Theorem

Salary Theorem
The less you know, the more you make.

Proof:

Postulate 1: Knowledge is Power.
Postulate 2: Time is Money.
As every engineer knows: Power = Work / Time
And since Knowledge = Power and Time = Money
It is therefore true that Knowledge = Work / Money .
Solving for Money, we get:
Money = Work / Knowledge
Thus, as Knowledge approaches zero, Money approaches infinity, regardless of the amount of Work done.

Did u know????

In the context of computer searches, the "*" is formally known as a "Kleene star."

Regular expressions trace back to the work of an American mathematician by the name of Stephen Kleene (one of the most influential figures in the development of theoretical computer science) who developed regular expressions as a notation for describing what he called "the algebra of regular sets." His work eventually found its way into some early efforts with computational search algorithms, and from there to some of the earliest text-manipulation tools on the Unix platform (including ed and grep).

Thought of the day - "My Night Out"

Got this mail from my friend...i feel its worth to place this in my blog..
After reading this if u feel it looks like yr story i am not responsible for that....:-)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My feet were getting numb. My arms were getting tired. But I sat there,

looking at the monitor, pretending to work. What if I slept off on thekeyboard? What would
people around me think? Am I not competitiveenough.Would another night out hurt. "No it won't." I consoled myself. "Work alittle more." I told myself.

Images of links between tables and pages from what we call, ETRMscrossed my mind. "Why?" I asked myself. "Why doesn't my mind wander away to themore beautiful things in life?" "Why does it always have to be WORK!!!?"

That was it. I couldn't take it anymore. I pressed the shutdown buttonon the PC as if to say, "I hate you". As if in reply, it took me twice toshut it down. I kicked my locker and walked out of my cubicle. The securityat the reception looked into my eyes sympathetically. I pretended like I amsolving problems in my head. As if the world depended on my sillyprogram. As if to justify the fact that the Security needs to respect me. I hatedmyself. I walked down the corridor towards the lift.

There I was, on the 10th floor. It was 3.30 in the morning. The terracelooked deserted. I loved the feeling. I was all alone. Just me, and thesky and the stars and the early morning breeze. I looked all around. Theworld looked much beautiful. Somewhere, far away, I could see lights. Ipresume that must have been another workplace where people like me are workingaway at their PCs.

I stood at the edge of the terrace. As I looked at the road that ran infront of our office, I slowly kept my palm on the wall. A chill ran downmy spine. Tiny droplets of water had formed on the wall, which I touched. Iwanted to feel it again. I touched it again. It was the most wonderfulfeeling. I wondered why I don't do these things often.

I decided to stay there till sunrise. I closed my eyes and waited. Finally, I could see a faint light in the east. Even though we hardly notice, these things do happen. Like sunrise and stuff. I saw the sun rise. As he roseI could see more and more buildings like ours. The breeze had got muchstronger. It was like sitting near the window seat of a bus that wasmoving through some lonely road near a lush paddy field. I got that taste inthe air. I got the feel. It was like heaven had met earth.

In the cubicle, I congratulate someone when his SELECT statement works. There I was, all alone, on the terrace, when more important things werehappening and I had no one to congratulate. I wanted to cry "Thank youGod"."Thank you for giving me this beautiful world to live in." But... thewords wouldn't come out. I felt guilty. I knew very well that I would go backin the cubicle once my emotions wore off.

"No" I said. "I am NOT going back there again." I ran down the stairs. Iwanted the glass that covers our reception to break and let some of thisair in. I rushed into my cubicle and got my bag and stuff. Running out, Idid not bother to sign the register. Strangely, my vehicle started with justone kick. I rode my bike quite fast, just to feel the air on my face.

When I reached the road, I realized that I was late. Considering thefact that I was in office since yesterday, I was really really late. Theworld had moved on. People had spent another night with their families. Kidshad spent another day studying for exams. Old folks had spent another nightwondering when to dye their hair. Teenagers had spent another nightdreaming about their loved ones.

There I was, like a machine coming out of my office building. I sawpeople taking their morning walks. Some of them jogging. Some of them standingand talking. Some old aunties jogging and talking and laughing, all at thesame time. There were newspaper-boys, milk-vendors and what not.

I started feeling out of place. "Was I from another planet orsomething?" I thought. I was dreaming I guess, a milk-vendor chap on his bicyclenearly hit my bike. "Idiot" I said. Didn't he know I am going home after atough day? Didn't he know that I am tired, and do not have the energy for suchcrap? "Wait a minute," I told myself. "Are you doing somebody a favor bystaying in the office so long?" "Will this world be a better place ifyou do that?" "Do you have it in you to buy one meal for that milk-vendor'sfamily?"

YOU CAN'T!!! And that's the truth. You can't do anything except writingpieces of code, which you regard as full of life for reasons known bestto you.

I broke into tears thinking about my own plight. I hated the fact that Iexisted. Why was I going through this entire trauma? What was holding mehere? The money?. The passion to program?. The feeling that I would beisolated if I didn't work?. I don't know. I am still searching for theanswers.

Then, suddenly out of nowhere, images of my family came into my mind. Mydad, who had taken care of the family since I remember him. In fact, since I remember anything. My mom who would not have slept even a little bit, since I have not reached home. And my brother, who doesn't actually show it,but misses me when he doesn't see me. "I am not alone" I shouted. "I havethis beautiful world to live in, with beautiful people in it"

Friends, do go out sometimes. Share your life with the people you lovethe most. Share your life with the nature. Share it with the wind. Share itwith the sun. Share it with the rain. Things much much more important thanprogramming is happening out there. But it won't come for you, you haveto go out and find it.

The best Assasin

Probably an old one….

The CIA had an opening for an assassin. After all of the background checks,
interviews, and testing were done there were three finalists - two men and
one woman. For the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large
metal door and handed him a gun.
"We must know that you will follow your instructions, no matter what the
circumstances. Inside this room you will find your wife sitting in a chair.
You have to kill her." The first man said. "You can't be serious. I could
never shoot my wife,"

The agent replies, "Then you're not the right man for this job."

The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went
into the room. All was quiet for about five minutes. Then the agent came out
with tears in his eyes. "I tried, but I can't kill my wife." The agent
replies, "You don't have what it takes. Take your wife and go home."

Finally, it was the woman's turn. Only she was told to kill her husband. She
took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one shot after
another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few
minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman.
She wiped the sweat from her brow and said, "You guys didn't tell me the gun
was loaded with blanks. So I had to beat him to death with the chair."

James Gosling = =java

EA : I'm curious about your opinion of some of the other languages that in some sense overlap Java. Notably, C#.
JG : They did such a job of copying Java, it's hard to criticize them. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

EA :They did have a different philosophy. Java's was "write-once, run anywhere." And the whole initiative of C# was "write in anything run on Windows."
JG :Yes, and no. You can actually build all kinds of compilers for the JVM, and people have done hundreds of them. We just never mounted a major marketing campaign about that which is maybe a mistake on our part. One thing I think was pretty significantly stupid on Microsoft's part is that it built its virtual machine environment so it would support languages like C and C++, and we thought long and hard about doing that. As soon as you support C and C++, you blow away most of the security story.

EA :The mantra of Java at least at one point and probably still is "write once run anywhere." In the early days, that was generally felt to not really be true. Everytime you moved to another environment, you still had to port your code. What's your take on where it is now?
JG :In the early days, that problem was a result of two issues one was that some of the VMs weren't very well tested, and the other was that Microsoft was aggressively trying to make it false, even though it had contractually agreed otherwise. We ended up dragging them into court, and it got ugly, and we won, and they ended up paying us a big pile of money.

Google - Playboy

Just five years ago a googol was an obscure, unimaginable concept: the number one followed by 100 zeros. Now respelled and capitalized, Google is an essential part of online life. From American cities to remote Chinese villages, more than 65 million people use the Internet search engine each day. It helps them find everything from the arcane to the essential, and Google has become a verb, as in, "I Googled your name on the Internet and, uh, no thanks, I'm not interested in going out Friday night."

Triangle View

Today, Web designers are called programmers, programmers are called engineers, engineers are called architects, and architects never get called. Not only are our titles mixed up, but our community of software practitioners is also deeply confused about the roles we play. The confusion is even worse in the minds of the businesspeople who hire us and set our budgets and schedules.

Perfection Vs Performance

But why do people deliberately waste time when there are much more efficient ways of working? This is a very good question. In fact, it is such a good question that I decided to ask a well-known professor of psychology at one of the top universities on the east coast of the USA. What she told me was no doubt a simplification so that a layman like myself could understand it. Despite such simplifications, her explanation both gave me a much better understanding of the phenomenon and some ideas about how compensate for it.

D Programming Language

D is a general purpose systems and applications programming language. It is a higher level language than C++, but retains the ability to write high performance code and interface directly with the operating system API's and with hardware. D is well suited to writing medium to large scale million line programs with teams of developers. D is easy to learn, provides many capabilities to aid the programmer, and is well suited to aggressive compiler optimization technology.
D is not a scripting language, nor an interpreted language. It doesn't come with a VM, a religion, or an overriding philosophy. It's a practical language for practical programmers who need to get the job done quickly, reliably, and leave behind maintainable, easy to understand code.

D is the culmination of decades of experience implementing compilers for many diverse languages, and attempting to construct large projects using those languages. D draws inspiration from those other languages (most especially C++) and tempers it with experience and real world practicality.

What are the biggest misconceptions that developers and IT people have about RSS/XML syndication?

People addicted to RSS tell their friends to check it out. Often, their friends say, "I don't have time to read weblogs." Remember people in 1993 saying they did not have time to surf the Internet? This is maddening, because RSS is actually a huge time-saver. There are two misconceptions. One is that RSS is just about reading blogs, and the other is that blogs are not worth reading. Some of the most influential voices in technology and business are on weblogs.

For developers who have not adopted RSS, how can it impact the way they work, communicate, and organize information?

Any business or person providing information to others would probably benefit from RSS. Already, I have spoken with my new colleagues at Sun about providing RSS streams whenever posting new content to a portal. We're not yet talking about a product, but it could happen.

I didn't say in the book that variation in wealth was in itself a good thing. I said in some situations it might be a sign of good things. A throbbing headache is not a good thing, but it can be a sign of a good thing-- for example, that you're recovering consciousness after being hit on the head.

Finally, the question the hackers have all been wondering about: how do you become a great hacker? I don't know if it's possible to make yourself into one. But it's certainly possible to do things that make you stupid, and if you can make yourself stupid, you can probably make yourself smart too.

I works with this fool... do you all have one like her at your office?

"I work with a woman who drives me crazy. She sits across from me, so there is no escaping her. She has the most fake phone voice that makes me cringe. When she calls people she uses this singsong voice that is really loud and obnoxious, but what is the worst part, is just before she hangs up she says: "Buh-bye" in such a snarky way that I want to puke.

She has this staticy waist length hair that she combs all the time and dresses like Dorothy Zbornak on Golden Girls, and she's only in her late 30's! I know I shouldn't complain about someone's clothes or appearance, but... when in combination with the rest of it, it's just the icing on the cake.

She uses nasal spray all day long, and then sprays this terrible perfume.

When people come into the office, she doesn't EVER look up to assist them, I always have to. But, when someone is at my desk asking for assistance, she interrupts me and answers their questions right as I am doing so!

And, she takes 2 and a half hour long lunch breaks. No one ever says anything about it, either because she's been here forever.

Additionally, her hyperbole is absolutely maddening! Everything is "crucial" or "critical" or "dire." Our office is totally laid back, there's no need for that!

I don't think I'm making it clear how irritating she is."

Gosling didn't care for the complexity of languages such as C++, he did like the basic syntax and object-oriented features of the language. So when he sat down to design his new language, he used C++ as its model, stripping away all the features of C++ that made that language difficult to use with his consumer-electronics projects. When Gosling completed his language-design project, he had a new programming language that he named Oak. (The story goes that the name Oak came to Gosling as he gazed out his office window at an oak tree.)

Useful info

How to keep Telemarketers away?

1. If you get one of those pushy people who won't shut up, just listen to
their sales pitch. When they try to close the sale, just put them on hold
till they give up.

2. If they start out with, "How are you today?" Just continue on with
telling about your problems.

3. If the person says he is from the ABC Company, ask him to spell his name,
then ask him to spell the company name, then ask where it is located.
Continue asking personal questions or questions about the company until they
hang up.

4. Say, "No," over and over. Be sure to vary the sound of each no, and keep
an even tempo even as they're trying to speak. Keep going until they hang
up.

5. If nothing works, tell the Telemarketer you are busy and ask for their
residence phone number so that you can call them back late in the evening.

Let a woman in your life ...

Well after all, Pickering, I'm an ordinary man,
Who desires nothing more than an ordinary chance,
to live exactly as he likes, and do precisely what he wants...
An average man am I, of no eccentric whim,
Who likes to live his life, free of strife,
doing whatever he thinks is best, for him,
Well... just an ordinary man...
BUT, Let a woman in your life and your serenity is through,
she'll redecorate your home, from the cellar to the dome,
and then go on to the enthralling fun of overhauling you...
Let a woman in your life, and you're up against a wall,
make a plan and you will find,
that she has something else in mind,
and so rather than do either you do something else
that neither likes at all You want to talk of Keats and Milton,
she only wants to talk of love,
You go to see a play or ballet, and spend it searching
for her glove, Let a woman in your life
and you invite eternal strife,
Let them buy their wedding bands for those anxious little hands...
I'd be equally as willing for a dentist to be drilling
than to ever let a woman in my life, I'm a very gentle man,
even tempered and good natured
who you never hear complain,
Who has the milk of human kindness
by the quart in every vein,
A patient man am I, down to my fingertips,
the sort who never could, ever would,
let an insulting remark escape his lips
Very gentle man...
But, Let a woman in your life,
and patience hasn't got a chance,
she will beg you for advice, your reply will be concise,
and she will listen very nicely, and then go out
and do exactly what she wants!!!
You are a man of grace and polish,
who never spoke above a hush,
all at once you're using language that would make
a sailor blush, Let a woman in your life,
and you're plunging in a knife,
Let the others of my sex, tie the knot around their necks,
I prefer a new edition of the Spanish Inquisition
than to ever let a woman in my life I'm a quiet living man,
who prefers to spend the evening in the silence of his room,
who likes an atmosphere as restful as
an undiscovered tomb,
A pensive man am I, of philosophical joys,
who likes to meditate, contemplate,
far for humanities mad inhuman noise,
Quiet living man....
But, let a woman in your life, and your sabbatical is through,
in a line that never ends comes an army of her friends,
come to jabber and to chatter
and to tell her what the matter is with YOU!,
she'll have a booming boisterous family,
who will descend on you en mass,
she'll have a large wagnarian mother,
with a voice that shatters glass,
Let a woman in your life,
Let a woman in your life,
Let a woman in your life I shall never let a woman in my life.

Piracy - new word

Piracy
Publishers often refer to prohibited copying as ``piracy.'' In this way, they imply that illegal copying is ethically equivalent to attacking ships on the high seas, kidnaping and murdering the people on them.

If you don't believe that illegal copying is just like kidnaping and murder, you might prefer not to use the word ``piracy'' to describe it. Neutral terms such as ``prohibited copying'' or ``unauthorized copying'' are available for use instead. Some of us might even prefer to use a positive term such as ``sharing information with your neighbor.''

NEXTURE

Here is a new word. The word is NEXTURE. Whenever there is a decision, an event or an action there are things that follow. There are things that come 'next'.

Instead of saying: "What will the effect be?"

Instead of saying: "What will follow?"

Instead of saying: "What will be the result?"

You simply say: "What is the nexture here?"

The word 'nexture' includes all the things that follow, all the things that happen next. The time scale is the same as for the word next. So it is the more immediate consequences rather than the long-term results. Nexture means: the texture of what will happen next

PHP Vs JSP

The following shows the scores for each language:

Number of features 30
PHP Won - 5
Java Won - 19
Tie - 6

PHP is suitable for small web based applications. Notice how PHP won in features that are geared towards the script’s writer, e.g. Variable variable name, or multi-line strings.

Java is more general and is suitable for larger applications. Notice how Java won in Object Oriented features, code packaging, multi-threading, and security.

Fine Justification

It was funny to see the little argument that came from the article (JSP Vs PHP ). It is like listening to Democrats and Republicans -- there's only one party that is any good, and the other one is evil. In my opinion, programming any application is like plumbing. If a plumber came to your house and he only had one wrench, you would and should send him away. What if your pipes are bigger? What if he needs to cut into a wall to reach your pipes? What if your pipes are made of PVC or ABS? A good plumber has a whole toolkit, and uses tools based on what is needed for the job, not based on how great "this" wrench is and how awful all the other wrenches are.

As such, if you are doing those large, complex sites that PHP could never do before, you should at least LOOK at it again before you count it out. It might meet your needs. It might not. Same for JSP. Check it out and see if it meets your needs. It might. Or it might not. Don't marry the tool. Choose the tool that fits your specific needs at the time. A hammer really does not fix everything.

Tomcat 5.0

Tomcat 5.0 Goals
Tomcat 5.0 looks great so far. It includes support for the Java Servlet 2.4 and the JSP 2.0 specifications, fixes many performance issues, and adds many new features and other improvements. Below we'll look at the two overall goals of Tomcat 5.0, which were implemented as of version 5.0.16.

Open Source response

I do not see why this (giving Java to Open Source) is such a big deal really. Sun has allowed Java to be a free download for years, including J2EE, J2SE, and J2ME.

In addition, there is the JCP. The JCP has an open membership type philosophy, so anyone can apply for memebership. that pretty much opens it up.

Why should Java be opened sourced? It may actually hurt, not help Java. Why?

(1) Many Enterprises would be more afraid of a Java that fragements.

There are currently so many Open Source and closed source Java projects, that it becomes a real problem knowing what to choose and use. Choice is good, but when you have to become familiar with a dozen competing frameworks, that is NOT good. Java is huge and complex on its own right, having upteen dozen ways to do the same thing, while allowing freedom, also muddies the waters with far too many comepeting frameworks. Just be a Java programmer for a while and you will see what I mean.:)

(2) Support. Who is going to manage and support all of the Open Source Java frameworks and developmnt tasks?

Java is currently the de facto Enterprise platform for Web and server based programming. If Java is open sourced, who can Enterprise customers go to for support of Java? Will it be Sun, IBM, Oracle, Borland, Apache Group, etc? How many flavors of Java can we except to emerge?

(3) Microsoft. You can bet without some type of centralized control, MS will use this as a marketing tool for NET. I could just see the advetizements now: Java means you do not know what is coming next and from where. NET means you know who is in the drivers seat. With Java will it be the freckled face teen, or will it be the old woman in the shoe?

In addition, MS would be free to learn more from Java and use in NET. What would have happened, years ago, if Java had been open sourced? We would now have two flavors: MS only Java (what NET truly is), and Java for the rest. I am glad Sun did not make this move. This is what is going to happen with Mono.NET and MS.NET, bet on it.

(4) Java has done well without a decentralized control.
I think Java has done quite well with centralized control and for the Enterprise customer, I think they feel much safer knowing tht there is a tightly controlled governing body. Fragementation would be a VERY BAD THING, not a good one. Yes Open Souce has done a good thing with Python and PHP, but these are much smaller in scope and in practical usage than Java. I am not sure that this would work. Again, Java is MASSIVE.

In conclusion, these are only a few of the reasons I can see where the JCP might be better than Open Source.
Of course you can look on the other side, and see why an Open Source Java can be a good thing as well. As long as Sun keeps the JCP and its memebership open, however,I do not see why the Open Source world cannot use and enjoy the benefits of Java.

IMHO, Sun has been pretty good and open with Java. They have only really slapped one wrist and forbidden thir use of Java and that was Microsoft. We all remember that story. MS tried their usual "extend, embrace, and extinguish" policy. Yes, Sun did give JBoss fits (which they should not have), and even early on gave the Apache group some grief. Fortunately, the pressure made Sun relent and recant.

Both the Apache Group and JBoss group are now members of the JCP, both of which are open source, as well as the commercial companies like Oracle, Borland, BEA, etc. I see this as a good thing actually, not a bad one.

Sun has gave us, as the author rightfully stated, things that have served to make the Linux community flourish, as have IBM, Oracle, and now Novell. I do not think that a company has to giev away all of its crowned jewels to be a friend to the Open Source world. Java is definitely a crowned jewel of Sun, and they have been very generous to the Java beneficiaries, oftemtimes at the cost of their own company coffers.

Just my opinion or two cents worth :)

a.r.Rahman

The gasps that greeted composer A R Rahman when he took the baton to conduct the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO), were not just directed at his musical abilities.
Don't Miss:

Bombay Dreams: To Broadway!

Of equal interest to the audience that packed the 2,200-seat auditorium in Birmingham city centre was what appeared to be the 38-year-old Rahman's decision to adopt a punk hairdo. After the two concerts last Friday and Saturday, Rahman explained to friends that his shorn locks were in preparation for his recently concluded pilgrimage to Mecca.

Rahman's appearance at Symphony Hall headquarters in Birmingham is believed to have pulled in what is believed to be the largest ever non-white audience for a mainstream British orchestra. Delighted orchestra executives say the demand for seats was so high, they could have sold three times as many seats as they did.

Audience reactions to Rahman's music, however, were more mixed. Although the orchestra played music from some of Rahman's better known compositions, including Bombay Dreams, Lagaan and the upcoming Meenaxi, other selections from Columbia Pictures' Chinese film, Warriors Of Heaven And Earth, were less familiar to overseas Indians' ears.

This week Rahman is in Pargue to record more music for Warriors Of Heaven And Earth with the Czech Film Orchestra before going to New York, where he will rehearse a fresh selection of songs for Bombay Dreams.

Java webstart Vs .NET product

On the rich-client side of the fence,.Net 1.0 and 1.1 provide a feature
called No-Touch Deployment,which,like Java Web Start,launches an
application straight from the Web,pulling in referenced assemblies on
demand. One former Java d veloper who has migrated from Java to .N t
worked out an ingenious solution that shares .N t assemblies between a W b
application that feeds data to a browser, and a rich-client application that
downloads the same assemblies and uses them locally.

.NET review

Does .Net Have a Dynamic-Languages Deficiency?

dynamic programming languages have been around
for decades. With LISP (LISt Processing) and Smalltalk as
progenitors, today’s popular examples include Perl, Python,
and Ruby.
Often labeled “open source scripting languages” and
regarded as useful mainly for data mining and automated sys-tem
administration, their well-kept secret is that these highly-productive
languages power more mission-critical services
than enterprises like to admit. In the Java world, a Java/Python
hybrid called Jython has built a cult following among devel-opers
who want to manipulate Java APIs with the ease and flex-ibility
of Python.

The .Net world lacks a Jython equivalent. ActiveState’s Perl
.Net and Zope Corporation’s Python for .Net bridge these
languages’ VMs (virtual machines) to the .Net CLR (Com-mon
Language Runtime). But they don’t achieve the deep
integration that comes from implementing a language
directly on the CLR, as Jython implements Python on the JVM.
Despite lots of second-guessing, there’s no consensus that the
CLR is inherently unfriendly to dynamic languages. The JVM does-n’t
bend over backwards for such languages either, and yet Jython
is a great success thanks to the heroic efforts of its inventor, Jim
Hugunin. Now Hugunin has turned his attention to .Net, and
reports promising results with a prototype Python implementa-tion
for .Net called IronPython.

Such projects always seem to spring from an inspired individual
or small team. In fact, Microsoft has such a team. It created JScript
.Net, the most dynamic of Microsoft’s .Net languages. But JScript
.Net is the unloved stepsister of C# and Virtual Basic .Net.
Dynamic languages are rooted in a culture that is simply not
indigenous to Redmond. That may change, but for the time being,
the future of dynamic languages in .Net lies with non-Microsoft
innovators.
